A Step-by-Step Guide to Automatically Restart Your Computer After a Power Outage

A Step-by-Step Guide to Automatically Restart Your Computer After a Power Outage

1. Verify the BIOS settings:

Enter the BIOS setup after restarting your computer. This is usually accomplished by holding down a particular key (usually F2, F10, Delete, or Esc) while the computer is booting up.

Look for a power management or power loss recovery option. The precise language may change based on the version of your BIOS. Frequently used phrases include of "AC Power Recovery," "Restore on AC/Power Loss," and "Power On After Power Fail."

Toggle this setting between "On" and "Enabled." This guarantees that in the event of a power outage, your computer will resume itself.

2. Set up the Operating System:

  •  In the case of Windows:

Open "Power Options" by going to the Control Panel (or search for it in the Start menu).

Select "Choose what the power buttons do" from the sidebar on the left.

When the option to "Change settings that are currently unavailable" appears, click on it.

In the "Shutdown settings" section, scroll down and confirm that "Turn on fast startup" is selected.

Select "Save changes."

  • Regarding macOS:

In the System Preferences, select "Energy Saver."

Select the option that says, "Start up automatically after a power failure."

3. Install a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply):

If power outages occur frequently in your area, you may want to consider purchasing a UPS. A UPS can temporarily power your computer, enabling the auto-restart functionality to function without interruption or providing you with enough time to fully shut down.

4. Check the Configuration:

After completing these adjustments, disconnect your computer from the power source or, if a UPS is not installed, unplug it from the computer. After a short while, wait to restore power. It should restart your computer automatically.
